Description

Lynton Cottage and The Old Court House is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates from the early to mid-17th century and has been altered and extended in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels and features a concrete plain-tile roof with brick stacks.

The layout consists of a three-unit through-passage plan with an added rear wing and a garage bay. It stands two storeys tall, plus an attic, and has a three-window front on the earlier main range. The ground floor has large renewed three-light casement windows, while the first floor features similar but smaller windows, except for the first-floor window of Lynton Cottage on the left, which has an old three-light casement with early leaded glazing beneath a heavily-moulded lintel. Most other lintels are concealed by render, except for the chamfered ground-floor lintel of Lynton Cottage.

The entrances are located between the bays, with the left entrance featuring a small 20th-century porch. The steep-pitched roof has three stacks and extends over the 20th-century garage bay of Lynton Cottage. The short rear wing of Lynton Cottage is likely from the 18th century. Inside, there are heavy stop-chamfered cross beams and some adjoining cross walls. It is said that The Courts Leet were held in The Old Court House.
