Description
Rectory Farmhouse, now a house, dates to circa 1700, although it incorporates earlier elements and was extended in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared marlstone and limestone, with wooden lintels, and has an artificial stone-slate roof. A prominent ashlar stack is also present. The original layout comprised three units, with a later 20th-century extension. The front has four windows, with a first-floor storeyband. The windows are renewed cross windows with chamfered lintels, and the entrance is within a 20th-century stone porch in the second bay. The steep-pitched roof features three gabled 20th-century dormers. A gabled 20th-century extension projects forward on the left side. The right-hand end wall, made of limestone, continues the storeyband and has twelve-pane sashes with flat arches across three floors. The rear wall, of rubble construction, has several blocked openings and a large lateral stack with a plinth. Inside, a fireplace contains a 16th and 17th century Tudor-arched stone feature, with later jambs. The house is believed to be on the site of the former rectorial manor house. The 20th-century range is not considered to be of particular architectural interest.
