Description

MEREVALE MEREVALE ROAD SP 39 NW (south west side)

2/139 Merevale Lodges and attached walls, gatepiers and gates - II Lodges, attached walls, gatepiers and gates. c1840, possibly by Edward Blore. Each lodge is of sandstone ashlar and limitation ashlar render. Slate roof; central rendered stack. One storey. 3 bays. Each has wide projecting pedimented central bay and narrow outer bays to each side. Stone plinth, banded rustication to angles and moulded sill course throughout. Central moulded stone cross window to each side. Angles have small light to each side. Leaded lights. Entablature and cornice, and parapets to angles. Pediments have moulded square vase finials to apex and ends. Return side to drive has doorway to recessed porch in furthest corner from the gates. Stack has narrow blind round arch and moulded cornice. Small brick range hidden behind park wall. Interior not inspected. Each lodge has attached wall and gatepier. Wall of sandstone ashlar with moulded coping is approximately 1.5 metres high. Jacobean style, with bulging pilasters and 2 fielded panels. Rendered gatepier has moulded stone gatepier and moulded shaped finial. Wooden open work gates.
