Description

Atherstone Lock Number 5 on the Coventry Canal is a lock built in the late 18th century, with later alterations. It features a brick chamber with concrete and stone copings. The lock has a single wooden top gate equipped with a steel balance beam and two sets of rack-and-pinion ground paddles. Additionally, there are wooden double bottom gates with wooden balance beams and two sets of gate-mounted rack-and-pinion paddle gearings. This structure is included for its group value with the nearby cottage that has an attached lobby, walled yards, and a wash house.
