Description
Grendon Lodge is a house built around 1820, designed in the Regency style with Greek Revival elements. The exterior is stuccoed and features a moulded cornice and parapet, topped with a hipped slate roof and two stuccoed ridge stacks. The building has a central staircase plan with wings extending towards the rear, and it stands two storeys high with a basement, comprising three bays.
The symmetrical front displays slightly recessed angles and is highlighted by a Greek Doric porch, which is accessed by a flight of five steps adorned with stucco openwork balustrades and pedestals featuring fluted urns, along with a wrought-iron balcony railing. The main entrance consists of double-leaf eight-panelled doors and sidelights beneath a large segmental-arched fanlight. The ground floor windows are four-pane sashes set in round arches, while a French window above the porch includes an overlight and casements with glazing bars and margin bars within a moulded architrave. An octagonal glazed lantern with a lead pagoda roof and weathervane crowns the structure.
The one-bay wings, which are one storey and basement, are set back on either side and maintain a similar style, featuring twelve-pane sashes. The interior is noted for its staircase with an iron balustrade.
