Description

This is a milepost dated 1834, made of cast iron. It has a circular plan and supports an enlarged head that is set about 100mm above the ground. On the left side of the division facing the road, it is inscribed with "LEEK/6/MILES," and on the right side, it reads "ASHB/9/MILES." The domed head is inscribed with "JAMES BASSETT ASHBOURNE 1834," and the post below the head is inscribed with "LONDON 148 MILES."
