Description

This is a milepost dated 1834, located approximately 250 yards northwest of Ivy Cottage. It is made of cast iron and features a circular section shaft with an enlarged head that is divided into three panels. The top of the head has the inscription "JAMES BASSETT ASHBOURNE 1834." The left-hand panel indicates "LEEK / 13 / MILES," while the right-hand panel shows "ASH.. / 2 / MILES." The shaft also states "LONDON 141 MILES."
