Description
The Cottage and Brierfield is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It was built in 1768, with additions made in 1903. The structure is made of coursed and squared large stone blocks with ashlar dressings, topped with a clay tile roof featuring coped verges and integral end stacks made of stone. Originally, it consisted of a two-room range with an entrance at the south end of the west side. The building was extended to the north and south around the same time as the 1903 additions.
The main range is two stories high and has three windows; the central and right windows are three-light chamfered mullioned windows, likely from 1768, containing casements. The ground floor windows have straight hood moulds, while the first-floor window to the left was added in 1903. There is a boarded door to the right with a rounded segmental head and a straight hood mould, featuring a heavy lintel dated 1768. To the left, there is another door with a rounded segmental head dated 1903.
The right-hand extension has two windows with casements and a central gabled porch that includes a 20th-century aluminium top opening window. There is also a privy to the right with a roof that slopes to the right. Inside, the property features exposed chamfered beams with ogee steps.
