Description
The Royal Oak Public House is a public house built in the 17th century and early 18th century. It features a cement-rendered and painted exterior with a plain tile roof that is hipped to the west and has twin gables to the east, along with one brick ridge stack. The building has a double range plan.
The west elevation consists of three bays and showcases an early 18th-century refronting with chamfered angle quoins. It has a central doorway with a plain Tuscan pilastered doorcase and panelled double doors, which are flanked by glazing bar sash windows that have moulded stone architraves. Above, there are three similar windows, with the central one being narrower. The elevation is finished with a first-floor band and a moulded eaves cornice.
On the east elevation, there are twin gables, with a lower and later gabled extension projecting from the middle. The right-hand gable features three tiers of 2-light chamfered mullion windows, with the lower two linked by a blind window, creating the appearance of a staircase window. The left gable also has three tiers of 2-light chamfered mullion windows, showing signs of a similar arrangement to the right-hand windows.
The south elevation includes two glazing bar sash windows and a tall single light staircase window, although the middle lights of this window are blocked.
