Description

The Old School House is a pair of houses dated 1853, built in coursed and squared stone blocks with ashlar dressings. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, featuring shaped tile bands and alternate crested ridge tiles. There are coursed and squared stone ridge stacks and integral end stacks. The building has an L-shape plan, with the front range aligned northeast-southwest facing southeast and the rear range aligned northwest-southeast facing northeast. It is designed in a Neo-Norman style and has two storeys. The façade includes four windows, which are paired round-headed glazing bar casements with a central chamfered mullion. To the left of the centre, there is a round-headed doorway with a 20th-century glazed door, and above it is a dedication stone with the inscription: "1853 / THESE SCHOOL HOUSES OWE / THEIR ERECTION TO THE REQUEST / OF HENRY PRINCE OF MAYFIELD".
