Description
Tollgate Cottage is a former lodge built in the early 19th century, featuring some alterations and an addition. The cottage is constructed of painted brick and has a hipped asbestos tile roof that replaced the original slate roof in October 1984. It has a brick ridge stack and an integral end stack. The building is designed in a Gothic style and is oriented northwest to southeast. It stands two storeys tall and consists of three bays, with a vertical joint indicating that the northwest bay is a later addition. The cottage has casement windows, and a three-sided bay projects from the southeast end, featuring windows with Gothic glazing bars and returned dripstones, except for the blind window in the centre of the first floor. A six-panelled door is located at the centre of the southwest side, topped with a hood supported by moulded brackets.
