Description
Milepost located on Lichfield Road in Dunstall, dating from the 19th century. It is made of hollow cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping top. The milepost is painted white with raised black lettering. There is an oval hole on the left side of the base. The inscriptions read: on the left side, "ARLEWAS 4 LICHFIELD 9"; on the right side, "BURTON 3 ¼"; and on the top, "DUNSTALL PARISH." This milepost is well-preserved in its original location and is part of a group of similar structures in East Staffordshire, highlighting the significance of road transport during the 19th century. As a good example of a milepost in situ, it is worthy of listing.
