Description

This is a roving bridge located on the Trent and Mersey Canal, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with blue brick used for the stone half-round coping and dressings. The bridge features concave sides and a segmental arch that spans the canal. The parapet is designed to sweep over the span, facilitating the roving of the tow rope from one towpath to the opposite side. The Trent and Mersey Canal itself was opened in 1777.
