Description

The lychgate, built around 1899, is located to the east of St Laurence's Church in Walton-upon-Trent. It is constructed from timber and red brick, featuring stone dressings and a plain tile roof with belled eaves and intricately carved, pierced cusped bargeboards. The short brick side walls have chamfered stone copings, and there are double wooden gates positioned between knob finials on the main posts. The timber superstructure above includes open grid side walls that are supported by curved braces, with cambered tie beams featuring cusped braces below and open timberwork above. The eastern tie beam bears the inscription: 'Erected by his parishioners and friends to the memory of the Rev Frederick Colborne Fisher MA RA Rector of this parish 1860-1899'. This lychgate is included for its group value.
