Description
The lychgate at the Church of St. Lawrence, dating from the late 19th century, features a stone slate roof supported by a timber structure. Two posts, which have later diagonal supports, rise to hold a ridge beam and cross beams that support the eaves purlins. The timber members are chamfered, and shaped braces reinforce the junctions between the cross beams and posts. The hammer-dressed stone walls are topped with triangular coping stones. Originally, the lychgate included a stone commemorating the school of 1814, which is now located in the churchyard.
