Description
Bridge Number 37 on the Trent and Mersey Canal, located off Lichfield Road, is a canal road bridge built in the late 18th century, with some repairs. It is constructed of red brick and features stone coping. The bridge has a single span and a humped back, with a segmental headed arch. It includes swept wings that end in piers at all four corners and has stone springing stones. Repairs to the bridge consist of an engineering brick buttress on the north off-side and some concrete coping. The Trent and Mersey Canal was constructed between 1766 and 1777 by James Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
