Description

This canal milepost, dated 1819, is located 10 meters south of Bridge 34 on the east side of the Trent and Mersey Canal. It is made of painted cast iron and features a circular shaft that is approximately 900 millimeters high with a domed top. Below the head, there is a convex plaque that is divided down the center. The left side is inscribed with "SHARDLOW/18/MILES" and the right side with "PRESTON/BROOK/74/MILES". At the base of the shaft, there is a quatrefoil-shaped inscription that reads "R & D/STONE/1819".
