Description
This is a late 17th-century cottage, with later 19th and 20th-century alterations and additions. The construction is timber frame with brick infill, along with brick additions. It has a tiled roof and a brick ridge stack on the right-hand side. The front of the cottage is divided into two parts. The left-hand side is a single-storey and attic timber-framed section, approximately three panels high, with diagonal braces against the wall plate at the ends. A 20th-century flat-roofed dormer window is to the right. Two small-pane casement oriels, each with three sides, are positioned on either side of the ground floor, interrupting the timber frame. The entrance is located to the right of centre and is set within a projecting architrave, with a Gothic-style boarded door. Attached to the right is a 20th-century bay with higher eaves, but the same overall roofline. It has a single 3-light 20th-century casement window on the ground floor. The timber framing is visible on the rear of the cottage, which faces the lane, and also on the north gable wall. The framing is of a smaller size on the extension to the south of the ground floor only, suggesting the house may have originally been larger. Closer inspection reveals the remnants to the south are not consistent with the main timber framing structure.
