Description
No. 31 High Street is a house that was later used as a shop and is now an office. It dates from around 1600 but was underbuilt, refaced, and had its eaves raised around 1800, with late 19th-century additions. The building features a rendered timber frame and a slate roof, consisting of two framed bays and three storeys. There is a brick ridge stack on the right side. Evidence of former jettied first and second floors can be seen in the slight projection above the first-floor windows, along with remains of a moulded bracket to the right of the shop front. The front has two windows with glazing bar sashes and a delicate late 19th-century cast iron shop front, which includes two-part plate glass windows flanking a central recessed half-glazed door with a rectangular overlight. No. 31 used to extend one more bay to the right, similar to Nos. 33 and 35 on High Street.
