Description
No. 114 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It dates from the 17th century, with early 19th century and 20th century alterations. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a slate roof that is half hipped towards the street and has an asymmetrical mansard on the sides. It has a rectangular plan with the short side facing the street, and it stands two stories tall with an attic.
On the northern elevation, the ground floor has a 20th century shop that is set back and includes a 20th century jetty, which may reflect the building's original form. The first floor features two early 19th century sash windows with moulded architraves, and there is a central attic window that is similar, with glazing bars arranged in a 3x3 pane configuration. The southern elevation's ground floor is obscured by a 20th century addition, but the first floor has an early 19th century sash window, and the attic has a 20th century two-light casement window.
The western side elevation has two 19th century stacks that rise through the roof pitch. The ground floor at the northern end has a 20th century jetty returning to the southern end, along with a 19th century sash window with horns. The first floor contains two 19th century sash windows. The eastern elevation is now exposed.
Inside, the cellar is said to be entirely of 20th century origin, and no timber framing is visible. No. 114, along with Nos. 108-114 and No. 120, form a group.
