Description
No. 24 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 17th century and was remodeled around 1900. The building features a timber frame with red brick nogging, and the front has either been refaced or rebuilt with planted timbers. It has a plain tile roof and consists of two framed bays that are positioned at right angles to the road. The jettied gable is supported by scrolled brackets holding the wall plates, with coving on the brattished planted tie-beam and plain barge boards that have a finial. There is a small-paned, two-light wooden attic casement and a canted bay window on the first floor. The shop front, which was added in the late 20th century, projects out and features plate-glass windows and a central recessed glazed door. At the rear, the building retains its framing and has a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts, although one strut is missing. Inside, the roof has single purlins and one chamfered jowl post is visible. An old photograph shows No. 24 before its remodeling as a fully framed building, along with its neighbors Nos. 22 and 23, which have since been rebuilt and are not included in this listing. The property is included for its group value.
