Description

No. 27, High Street is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with significant remodelling in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rendered walls, likely over a former timber frame rebuilt on coursed limestone rubble; the roof is slate. The building has a T-shaped plan, two storeys and an attic. It features a plinth, two gabled dormers with 2-light wooden casements dating to the mid-19th century, an integral brick end stack to the left, a brick stack projecting from the front roof ridge to the right, and a truncated end stack to the rear. The front has three bays, with mid-19th century four-pane sash windows. The central entrance has a mid-19th century four-panelled door with a rectangular overlight, set within a doorcase featuring reeded pilasters and reeded brackets supporting an open triangular pediment. The interior includes a 17th century L-shaped staircase with winders, pierced double lyre-shaped splat balusters, a moulded handrail, and reeded square newel posts.
