Description

This is a mid-16th century house, with additions dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is now used as a builder's store. The front is timber frame construction with a plinth of coursed limestone rubble, and has been partly re-faced with painted brick. The roof is covered with slate tiles, some graded stone. The house has five framed bays and extends at right angles to the road with further additions to the east and west. The upper floor has a 16-pane sash window with glazing bars, and the ground floor has a shop front fitted with plate glass windows, dating from the mid to late 20th century. On the north side, there are three mid- to late-19th century casement windows and a half-glazed door located off-centre.

The interior retains a timber-framed gable end in the roof, featuring a king post and decorative herringbone framing. There are two possible raised cruck trusses, believed to be of the Alcock apex type F2. Other trusses are of the queen strut or inclined-strut type, and include windbraces and through purlins, with evidence of smoke-blackening. On the first floor is re-ordered 17th-century panelling with lozenge decoration, while the ground floor has a late-18th century fireplace surround with a moulded cornice.
