Description

No. 2 Sandford is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, with later additions and alterations, and an extension made in the late 20th century. The building is timber framed with painted brick infill and additions, topped with a slate roof. Originally, it had a plan of two framed bays, which was extended to the right in the late 20th century. The cottage is one storey with an attic.

The framing consists of square and rectangular panels, with three panels from the cill to the wall-plate and short straight tension braces. There are vertical struts from the tie beam to the collar at the left gable end. The windows are late 20th-century casements, with one located to the right of the 17th-century part, one to the left in a 20th-century gabled brick projection, and another in a 20th-century addition. There are also two late 20th-century gabled eaves dormers, one on the 17th-century part and another on the 20th-century addition.

To the left of the right casement in the 17th-century part, there is a Neo-Georgian door, and a reddish brown brick ridge stack is located immediately to the left. At the rear, there is a timber-framed lean-to that has been largely rebuilt in brick, with its eaves raised in the late 20th century. A late 19th or 20th-century brick lean-to on the left gable is not considered to have special architectural interest.
