Description
Sandford Hall is a country house built in the early 18th century, with extensions from the mid-19th century and later alterations. The building is constructed of red brick and features chamfered stone angle quoins, topped with a hipped slate roof. It has two storeys and an attic, characterized by a moulded stone floor band and an eaves cornice. The façade consists of two bays, a central bay that slightly projects, and an elegant curved pediment. The windows are four-paned sashes with gauged heads and keystones, and there are two hip-roofed dormers positioned high on the roof slope. The central entrance features a six-panel door with a rectangular overlight, set within a plain pilastered doorcase topped by an open segmental hood supported by carved consoles. A prominent axial ridge stack is located at the center of the roof. To the right, there is a mid-19th century addition that is set back and has two four-paned sashes on the ground floor and one in the center of the first floor, along with a prominent dormer featuring a segmental pediment in the roof slope and a modillion eaves cornice. There are also brick additions to the rear from the 19th century and a datestone from 1922. The interior could not be inspected during the last survey in January 1986 but is likely to be of interest.
