Description
Sandford Mill is a mid-18th century mill, subsequently altered, located in Prees C.P. It is shown on Ordnance Survey maps as Old Mill. The building is constructed of red brick with a plain tile roof featuring carved stone kneelers and coped verges. It has two floors, with horizontal bands marking the levels on both the front and gable ends. The front elevation includes a segmental-headed doorway to the left, a similar doorway in the centre, and an infilled opening to the right, beside a square-headed window. A square-arched doorway with a gauged head in the right gable end provides access to the mill wheel. An integral stack is situated centrally on the front wall. Inside, a massive undershot wheel with wooden spokes is accompanied by a small cast-iron grinding wheel. Original grinding and lifting gear, along with a fireplace on the front wall, remain in place. The building has a king-post roof in four bays, with lofts on both the left and right sides.
