Description
This barn, located approximately 30 meters east of Spencer Lodge, is now used as a cowshed. It likely dates from the early 17th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The structure is timber framed and primarily covered in corrugated iron, with a plain tile roof. It has two levels; the east side features three eaves hatches, two boarded doors to the left, and one 20th-century ventilated opening to the left of center.
Inside, the framing is exposed, showing three square panels from the cill to the wall-plate, long straight tension braces, and jowled wall posts. There is an inserted full-length loft, and the roof is a single-purlin design spanning three wide bays, with raking struts from the tie beams supporting the principal rafters. Later farm buildings adjoining this barn are not included in the listing.
