Description
This is a farmhouse, now divided into two houses. It likely dates from the 17th century, with significant alterations in later centuries. The construction probably incorporates brick over a timber frame, with slate roofs. The original layout comprised a central hall with a cross-wing to the north-east. In the 17th century, a further cross-wing was added to the south-west. An early 19th-century gabled wing was built to the north of the original cross-wing, with stables attached to the left. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with attics in the cross-wings. It has an irregular arrangement of windows, mostly mid- to late 19th century two- and three-light casements. Many windows have cross-paned sashes beneath. The left-hand cross-wing has a three-light casement and a fixed-light window on the first floor, with a cross-paned sash below. The right-hand cross-wing features a single three-light casement on the first floor, and a cross-paned sash on the ground floor. Entrance is through gabled porches on the right of the left-hand cross-wing and on the left of the right-hand cross-wing. A prominent brick ridge stack is visible, with triangular pilaster shafting at its base to the right of the hall, alongside a rebuilt stack at the junction of the hall and the left-hand cross-wing. Gable ends have projecting purlins and wall-plates. The stables are timber-framed with red brick infill, built on a high brick plinth. The north side has two rectangular panels from the cill to the wall-plate. A roughly central stable door is flanked by a casement and a single fixed-light window, all with segmental heads. There is a smaller entrance to the left, and the stables have a slate roof.
