Description

95 and 96 Corve Street are two houses located in Ludlow. Number 96 dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and features a timber-frame structure with 18th and 19th century brick infill. Number 95, built in the late 18th century, is made of colour-washed brick. Both houses have gabled roofs covered in plain tiles, with a steeper pitch on No. 96, and feature 18th and 19th century brick ridge stacks. Each cottage has a one-unit plan and is two stories high with a four-window range.

No. 96 has a 20th century plank door, while No. 95 has a segmental brick arch above a 19th century plank door. Both houses have segmental brick arches over late 19th century or early 20th century two-light casements, with similar casements on No. 96. To the left of No. 95, there is a 19th century rubble stone lean-to.

Inside No. 95, there is a square-section beam and reused 17th century purlins. No. 96 features an exposed timber frame with diagonal wall bracing and wattle and daub infill, along with 17th century split-oak joists on the ground floor. The roof of No. 96 is a two-bay structure with wattle and daub infill, supported by a queen-post truss on a tie beam and jowled posts of heavy scantling, and a queen-strut truss against the right-hand wall, which is shared with No. 94 Corve Street.
