Description
Merchant House is a 17th-century building located on Corve Street in Ludlow. Originally constructed as two houses, it now functions as a single residence. The structure features a timber-frame design with render and plaster, topped by a plain tile roof and a brick stack at the rear.
The house stands three stories high and has a three-window range. The ground floor includes a doorway on the left, featuring a plank door set in a plain case, flanked by curved chamfered jetty-brackets that continue as pilasters. There are two bay windows with 20th-century casements, and the timber post with a curved bracket is located to the right. The original bressummer is noteworthy, as it has floor joists that are tenoned into it.
The central section of the house has been significantly altered but still showcases moulded dragon beams. The rear of the building has a wing with exposed timber-framing on the sides and a roughcast jettied gable supported by curved brackets. The roof is also covered with plain tiles and features a brick ridge stack.
