Description
Tanners Cottages are two houses located on Corve Street in Ludlow, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. They are constructed of painted brick and timber-frame, topped with a plain tile roof that features two ridge lines and a brick stack at the rear. The cottages are two stories high and have an eight-window range.
On the left side, there are four 3/6 windows, one 4/8 window, and one late 19th-century margin-glazed sash window set in close studding. The right side has two late 19th-century margin-glazed sash windows beneath moulded brick modillion eaves. The left-hand range includes a passageway to the rear, located in the center left, which is supported by a moulded bressummer. To the left of this passageway, there are two 20th-century doors and doorcases flanking two 20th-century 3/6 sash windows, while to the right, there is a 20th-century bay window.
The right-hand range also features a 20th-century bay window, with blocked openings on both sides beneath gauged brick segmental arches. The passageway to the rear reveals timber-framed sides and mutilated jetty beams, with a stop-chamfered ceiling and girding beams. There is a blocked door on the left and a 20th-century door on the right.
