Description

SJ 5221 SHAWBURY C.P. OAK DRIVE SJ 55820 21393 (north side)

19/126 Summerhouse approx. - 9 metres to south- west of Oakmead

  • II

Summerhouse, now garden store. Circa 1735. Red brick (some gauged) with yellow/grey sandstone ashlar dressings; hipped plain tile roof. Square plan. Moulded plinth and chamfered raised quoins. Blocked side windows with gauged heads; inserted C20 window to east. Boarded door to north and segmental- headed boarded door to south. The summerhouse appears formerly to have had an open front to the south (see straight joints and later C18 brickwork). The summerhouse stands at the north end of the bowling green at the rear of The Elephant and Castle Hotel (q.v.) but at time of survey (January 1986) it is separated from it by a new road. Oakmead is not included on this list.
