Description
The summer house, located about 60 metres north-west of the main house at Oaklands, dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a stone-tiled hipped roof, although the finial is missing. A weathered stack with a cornice is positioned at the rear left, set at an angle to the roof ridge. The building has a square plan, with the front accessed by two steps leading up to a central six-panelled door. This door is framed by a bolection moulded architrave and is topped by an open segmental pediment, which includes a knob set in the tympanum on moulded, beaded brackets. The architrave has moulded sides, and the structure features a plinth, rusticated V-jointed quoins, and a continuous cornice. The other three sides of the summer house have a central bay that projects forward, each containing a sash window with a bolection-moulded head, moulded architrave, and cill. Inside, there is dado panelling and a wooden chimney-piece with shell and leaf carved brackets.
