Description
The summerhouse, located in the grounds of Cobham Cottage, dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring some flared panels, and has a slate roof with a brick end stack at the rear. The building has a one-unit plan and is a single storey with a three-bay front that faces south towards the town.
The central entrance features a panelled door with a fanlight above, set within a round-arched doorway that has imposts. On either side of the doorway are large 12-pane sash windows with flat-arched heads. The front also includes a plinth, a raised brick panel above the doorway, and blank sunk panels above the windows. A cornice band, a stone-coped brick parapet, and a shaped pediment conceal the roof, with the pediment featuring a blank circular sunk panel. The sunk panels are arranged in header bond and primarily consist of flared headers. At each end of the parapet, there are limestone bases that once supported ball finials.
Inside, the summerhouse contains a fireplace with a hob grate dating from around 1800, built-in shelving on either side of the fireplace, and a moulded plaster cornice.
