Description
The wall enclosing the garden of Castle House is a boundary wall dating from the 18th century, though it has older origins and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, partly faced in brick, and features brick and tile coping. The wall meets the right corner of the front range of Castle House and flanks one side of the forecourt to the house. On the forecourt side, it is faced with red brick in Flemish bond and has a cogged brick cornice and gabled brick coping. The wall continues to form the boundary between West Street and the grounds of Castle House. There is a doorway to the garden near the house, which has a wooden lintel and a 20th-century wrought-iron gate. Longer sections of the wall enclose the east and north sides of the grounds. Additionally, there is a doorway near the north-west corner that features a Tudor-arched moulded limestone head with imposts, chamfered brick jambs, and a 20th-century timber door.
