Description

Numbers 21 and 22, along with their attached outbuildings, are a pair of houses dating from the early 19th century, though with earlier origins and 20th-century alterations. The front of the houses are rendered, while the roofs are slate, with brick ridge and end stacks. The buildings are arranged in an L-shape. The three-story, four-window front has a central 20th-century door within a moulded wooden surround with paterae at the corners and a thin hood over, flanked by 20th-century shop windows on the right (Number 21). Number 22 has a partly-glazed 6-panel door with a similar surround to the right of a 20th-century window. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows, and the second floor has 12-pane sashes, some featuring old crown glass. A plinth and bracketed wooden eaves are present. A rainwater head is centrally placed, featuring a star over a crescent in relief.

To the rear, two-story wings connected by single-story wings that house outbuildings, all with plain-tile roofs, extend from the main structure.

Inside, a wing of Number 21 contains a chamfered spine beam with ogee stops on the ground floor and in the cellar, also with a chamfered spine beam. Number 22 features an elliptical-arched opening off the passage, leading to a staircase with a ramped mahogany handrail and stick balusters. An old kitchen in a rear wing has a spine beam and a fitted dresser.
