Description
Chandos House is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early 19th century and extended in the 20th century. The building is made of yellow brick laid in Flemish bond and features a hipped slate roof with a brick lateral stack on the left side. It has a double-depth plan and is two stories high with a two-window range, plus a one-bay extension added in the 20th century.
The front of the building includes two basement windows with two-light casements that have cambered arched heads. The ground and first floors feature 16-pane sash windows, all with flat-arched heads; the ground floor windows are rendered. On the left side elevation, there is a central six-panel door with an ornamental overlight, panelled reveals, and a moulded wood surround, which is accessed by two York stone steps leading to an open porch. The porch is supported by fluted Roman Doric columns on rendered plinths, with matching pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a deep cornice with mutules. Above the door, there is a 12-pane sash window on the first floor. To the right, there is a two-storey, one-window 20th-century extension.
Inside, the building features a dogleg stair with stick balusters and a ramped and wreathed mahogany handrail.
