Description
This pair of cottages is located on Bristle Hill in Buckingham and dates from the early 19th century, with later alterations in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of red brick, with number 3 rendered and featuring incised masonry patterns. They have plain-tile roofs and brick end stacks. Each cottage has a single-room plan.
The cottages present a two-storey, two-window front. A four-panelled, part-glazed door is positioned to the right of centre (number 3), while a 20th-century door sits to the left (number 4). The ground floor windows are 3-light casements; the left window has a segmental-arched head, while the right is a 20th-century design with a moulded wood surround. The 2-light first-floor windows also feature segmental-arched heads. Each cottage has a flat-roofed dormer window. Modern extensions have been added to the rear.
The interior of both cottages retains chamfered spine beams on the ground floor. Number 4 additionally has an elm chamfered spine beam on the first floor and a purlin roof.
