Description

The Allen memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 10 metres south of the nave of the Church of St Lucia. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and is made of grey sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a panelled plinth with a moulded top and battered sides, which are adorned with Gothic-panelled corner piers. It has a moulded cornice leading to a pyramidal top. The memorial is inscribed in memory of Jane, the daughter of John and Jane Allen, who died on March 11th, 1791, at the age of 8 months. Additional inscriptions were found to be illegible at the time of the survey in February 1985.
