Description

The Gatehouse is a 17th-century house with 19th-century alterations. It is timber-framed with painted brick nogging set on a high brick plinth, and has a plain tile roof with a crested ridge. The building follows an irregular cruciform plan and is one storey high with a gable-lit attic. It features three large 19th-century brick stacks, some with square and star-shaped shafts and oversailing caps.

The timber framing consists of square panels, three from the sole plate to the wall plate, with exposed collar and tie-beam trusses incorporating queen struts and V-struts. The north front has a gable facing forward, featuring a first-floor 19th-century three-light oriel window and a ground-floor canted bay with a hipped roof. A 20th-century two-light wooden casement window is located in the right-hand return front, and a 20th-century porch is set into the angle of the left-hand return front. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
