Description
No. 1 Castle Street is a late 18th-century shop and dwelling, now functioning solely as a shop. The building features a stucco exterior with a pitched roof covered in composite tiles at the rear. It has a brick ridge stack and a coped gable with kneelers on the left side. The structure is three stories tall and has a three-window range, with fixed lights that have glazing bars, likely altered by the shopfront. Above these are 6/6 sash windows, and the building is topped with a stone-coped parapet. The 20th-century shopfront includes twin entrances and bowed plate glass windows, a panelled soffit, and a deep fascia board with a cornice that returns to the left, supported by enriched consoles. Additionally, there is a 19th-century wing that fronts Raven Lane, which features 6/6 sash windows on the first and second floors. The interior of the ground floor was remodeled in the 20th century.
