Description
No. 5 Castle Street is a house and shop dating from the late 18th century. It features a stucco exterior with a slate roof on the front pitch and plain tiles on the rear. The building has a brick end stack and a common stack, and it is designed with a 2-unit plan. It stands four storeys high with a cellar and has a two-window range. The first and second floors have 8/8 sash windows, while the third floor has 4/4 sash windows. The eaves are moulded wood. The early 20th-century shopfront includes a central glazed door and bowed plate glass windows with moulded glazing shafts. To the right of the shopfront is an 8-panel door with an overlight featuring glazing bars, all beneath a fascia board and cornice that are flanked by ornate consoles. This building forms a pair with No. 7 Castle Street.
