Description
No. 7 Castle Street is a house and shop dating from the late 18th century. It features a stucco exterior, with a slate roof on the front pitch and plain tiles on the rear. The building has a brick end stack and a common stack, and it is designed with a 2-unit plan. It stands four storeys tall with a cellar and has a two-window range. The first and second floors have 8/8 sash windows, while the third floor has 4/4 sash windows. The eaves are moulded wood.
The early 19th-century shopfront includes a central 20th-century door with an overlight that has glazing bars, flanked by windows with glazing bars and pilasters. To the left of the shopfront is an 8-panel door with an overlight featuring glazing bars, which provides access to a passage leading to the rear. This passage has a 6-panel door and an overlight with glazing bars as well, all beneath a fascia board and cornice that are flanked by fluted consoles and topped with a cast-iron guard. The building forms a pair with No. 5 Castle Street.
