Description
15 and 16 Mardol is a Grade II* listed building located in Shrewsbury. This shop, which was originally a dwelling, dates back to around 1600 but underwent extensive restoration in the late 20th century. The structure is timber-framed and features a plain tiled roof. It is three stories high and has a two-window range. The shop front has been inserted, featuring canted bays on either side of a central door.
The upper storey includes two full-height square oriel bays, with continuous bands of mullioned and transomed windows separated by balustraded studding on each floor. The framing of the main structure displays cusped quatrefoil panelling, and the gables are adorned with cusped barge-boards and finials.
On the return elevation to Hill's Lane, there are two gables framed with close studding, a middle rail, and long raking braces. This side features two inserted shop windows flanking a series of three doors and two casement windows. The left-hand door is highlighted by an architrave with a triglyph frieze above it. The upper windows consist of two horizontal sliding sashes and a casement. The rear gable reveals square panelling and a joweled corner post.
