Description
40 Pride Hill is a Grade II listed shop, possibly originally a shop with a dwelling, dating from the early 16th century with additions from the 17th century. The building is timber-framed and has a plain tiled roof. It stands three storeys high with a single-window range. The late 20th-century shop front reveals exposed timbering on the upper storeys, featuring square panels with arch bracing. An early 17th-century addition is a square projecting full-height bay, which includes a 5-light mullioned and transomed window on the first floor and a 4-light casement window above. Below the first-floor windows, there is balustraded studding and cusped quatrefoil panels. Each side of the central bay, a small balcony was added, likely around 1900. At the top, there is a central gable adorned with enriched barge-boards and a finial.
