Description
No. 14 Pride Hill is a shop building that dates largely from the mid-18th century, with its facade dating to around 1850. The facade is made of cast iron designed to imitate stucco, topped by a Welsh slate roof. The building stands three storeys tall and features a two-window range. A late 20th-century shop front has been inserted, but above it is a highly ornate facade. This includes round-arched windows set in pedimented architraves adorned with masks and foliate decoration on the first floor. The second storey has lugged architraves and an enriched string course. The corners of the building are highlighted with vermiculated quoins, and there is an elaborate cornice decorated with foliate scrolls and masks. Two dormers are present in the roof, and there is a gable end stack on the left side. The building is said to be dated 1743, and the facade was reportedly commissioned by a Birmingham iron master.
