Description

Nos. 31, 32, and 33 on Pride Hill in Shrewsbury are a row of three shops originally developed in the 17th century, with their current facades dating from around 1900. The buildings are plastered and feature mock timbering over the original timber-framing, topped with plain tiled roofs. They stand two storeys high with prominent gabled attics, each functioning as a single unit.

The shop fronts were inserted later, with those for Nos. 30 and 31 dating to around 1900, and they include moulded fascias above renewed windows. No. 31 appears to have been built separately, showcasing a distinct pattern of mock timber featuring herringbone struts and cusped quatrefoil panels. It also has a full-height square oriel bay window with wooden mullions and transoms, along with balustraded timbering. The high gable is adorned with heavy barge-boards that include finials and pendants.

Nos. 32 and 33 are likely a single build or rebuild, characterized by thin mock timbering with long raking braces. They feature 16-pane sash windows with drop-ended hoodmoulds above. The high gabled attics contain 9-pane sash windows, and No. 32 has some lozenge decoration in its timbering. Both buildings have fretted barge-boards with finials.
