Description
Nos. 53, 55, and 57 on Branch Road are three shop premises built in the late 19th century. They feature pitch-faced stone ashlar dressings and hipped slate roofs. The buildings are two storeys tall, but No. 55 has a significantly taller first floor, which is accentuated by a moulded and bracketed eaves cornice. No. 53 consists of two bays, No. 55 has four bays, and No. 57 has two bays. The ground floor openings have triangular pediments with plain raised surrounds. No. 57 has a single tripartite window with a transom and a central door. To the right of this window is an elliptical arched carriage entrance, which is now partly blocked by a recent shop front. The first-floor windows of Nos. 53 and 57 are sashes set in moulded surrounds, while No. 55 features taller round-arched windows with moulded voussoirs and fluted keystones. The buildings are included in the listing for their group value.
