Description

Nos. 21, 23, and 25 English Street are shops with commercial premises above, dating from the early to mid 19th century. They are constructed from calciferous sandstone ashlar and feature sill bands, a cornice, and a dwarf parapet. The building has a graduated greenslate roof with a right coped gable and end brick chimney stacks. It stands three storeys high under a common roof.

No. 21, located on the left and consisting of two bays, is partly over Pack Horse Lane, while Nos. 23 and 25 form a single property with three bays on the right, separated from No. 21 on the ground floor by the lane. The ground floor has 20th-century shop windows and doors. The upper floor windows of No. 21 are all different; those on the left are set in stone architraves, with the upper window featuring an eaved architrave. There is a large wooden oriel window over the lane arch and a tripartite window above it. The windows of Nos. 23 and 25 include some with glazing bars in stone architraves. No. 21 has blocked openings onto the lane, while Nos. 23 and 25 have a 20th-century door set in an original painted stone surround with a console-bracketed cornice. The interiors of the ground floors have been extensively altered.
