Description
Nos 55, 57, and 59 Queen Street is a row of three shops dating from around 1800. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys tall and has a total of six first-floor windows.
No 55 consists of three bays, featuring a wide central doorway with tie-stone jambs and a monolithic lintel, along with a square window above that has a plain stone surround. The outer bays retain their original shop fronts, which are adorned with wooden pilastered surrounds, an entablature, and a cornice. Above the first bay is a 2-light flat-faced mullioned window, while the third bay has a wider window that lacks a mullion. There is a brick stack on the left gable.
No 57 has a similar shop window with a former taking-in door that has been converted into a window. To the right, there is a basket-arched doorway that likely leads into a passage. No 59 features a doorway flanked by wider shop windows, also with wooden pilasters, an entablature, and a cornice. The first floor includes a 2-light window and a single-light window with a 4-pane sash. The roofs of Nos 57 and 59 are stepped up and feature brick gable stacks.
